Public Education Gets Boost From Houston A+ Challenge "Power of the Network" Dinner Fundraiser
Improving public education – that was the motivation that found more than 330 men and women filling the River Oaks Country Club ballroom for the Houston A+ Challenge "Power of the Network" fundraiser.
With Franelle Rogers and Irma and Roberto Gonzalez as chairs, the dinner brought in more than $200,000 for the program that works to improve classroom teaching, school leadership and student achievement. A+ executive director Scott Van Beck discussed the various educational programs.
H-E-B was recognized with the Maconda Brown O'Connor Award for Leadership in Public Education, honored for its support of literacy programs and support of teachers and school leaders. Winell Herron accepted on behalf of the grocery chain. H-E-B also served as presenting sponsor of the event.
