Mardi Gras has begun! And what better place to experience the culture, life and festivities than throughout the Houston area. Here is just a sample of the area festivities highlighting the coming days and culminating on February 16th with Fat Tuesday. Whether you choose one, two or all, take some time to celebrate and enjoy these lively local events!
What: Mardi Gras! Galveston When: February 5 -16 Where: Galveston Island
Come celebrate as Galveston Island comes alive for Mardi Gras! Galveston - the 99th annual event since 1867. With 11 parades and over 50 galas and festive events this will be a week featuring festivities for everyone. There will be a beachfront carnival, shopping, and a nightlife featuring music from salsa and jazz to rock’n roll.

Knights of Momus Grand Night Parade
Saturday February 13 at 6:30pm
This is Mardi Gras! Galveston’s biggest parade, featuring floats, marching bands, and dignitaries, complete with bead throwing and more.
Mardi Gras Children’s Parade
Sunday February 14 at 2pm
This family friendly parade, themed “A Salute to Hollywood,” will feature kids in costume and many decorated floats for everyone to enjoy. It is hosted by Firefighters Local 571.
Mystic Krewe of Aquarius 16th Annual “Fat Tuesday” Parade
Tuesday February 16 at 7:30pm
The final celebration of Mardi Gras will end with the annual Fat Tuesday Parade by Aquarius, featuring Krewes and marching bands as they travel through historic downtown Galveston and the Strand District.

What: Mardi Gras Celebration
When: Every Tuesday at 9pm
Where: The Big Top Lounge, 3714 Main St., Houston
Come celebrate Mardi Gras by listening to the New Orleans Hustlers Brass Band at The Big Top Lounge, just three doors down from The Continental Club. Every week you’ll hear some great music and get free red beans and rice to enjoy.

What: Southeast Texas Mardi Gras
When: February 11-14
Where: Port Arthur
Southeast Texas Mardi Gras is celebrating it’s 17th Annual Mardi Gras Celebration with four days full of fun. Originally begun as a way to promote interaction among different groups of people, create a family friendly event and serve as an economic development project for Southeast Texas, the Southeast Texas Mardi Gras has been seen as the “catalyst that began a resurgence of downtown Port Arthur.”
This family friendly week will feature concerts on three different stages along Proctor street every night of the week, where you’ll also find Dallas The Fire Guy and Jerry the Monkey Man strolling and entertaining the masses. Don’t miss the Carnival on Thursday and Friday, one of the many exhibits including a South Texas Wrestling match, a Great Cat Exhibit and much more.

What: iFest Mardi Gras Party with Marcia Ball and Texas Johnny Brown When: Friday February 12 at 8pm Where: Rockefeller Hall, 3620 Washington Ave., Houston Enjoy a night full of soulful blues, southern boogie, and heartfelt ballads from the musical talents of singer/pianist Marcia Ball and blues icon Texas Johnny Brown. What: 2010 Kemah Yachty Gras Boat Parade When: Saturday February 13 from 7-9pm Where: Kemah Boardwalk, Clear Lake Enjoy a special 2 hour Mardi Gras cruise on Clear Lake and Galveston Bay. You’ll cruise past the Kemah Boadwalk where you’ll be the judge to throw beads to dancers. Enjoy a dj as well as an open beer/wine bar, all for just $49 per person. What: Montgomery County Performing Arts Society Mardi Gras Ball
When: Saturday February 13 at 6pm
Where: La Torretta Resort and Spa, 600 La Torretta Boulevard, Montgomery, Texas
The Montgomery County Performing Arts Society is hosting its second annual Mardi Gras Ball, featuring cocktails with their Mardi Gras King, Roger Galatas, followed by dinner and performances by Bon Ton Mickey and the Zydeco Hotsteppers and “Jane’s Destiny.”
Tickets are limited and cost $150 per person with all proceeds going to benefit MCPAS programming and community outreach.
