Houston Reaches Population Milestone
Houston and three other top Texas markets are expected to hit population milestones this month.
A milestone is defined as any population that ends with at least four zeros, and the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown metropolitan statistical area’s population is expected to hit an even 6.29 million on Jan. 25, according to a Business Journals’ On Numbers analysis. As of Jan. 1, On Numbers estimates the MSA was 8,865 people away from its milestone.
Also in January, the Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonio and Austin MSAs are expected to hit milestones of 6.73 million, 2.27 million and 1.87 million, respectively.
A computer program developed by On Numbers analyzes more than a decade's worth of demographic data to estimate the populations of states, metropolitan areas, counties and cities at any given moment. However, the U.S. Census Bureau won’t release 2013 population figures for more than a year.
On Numbers’ database includes each metropolitan and micropolitan area’s estimated population as of Jan. 1 and the date of its next anticipated milestone.
Texas is also approaching its own population milestone, according to a recent On Numbers analysis.
